Ha Ha Ha, a solo exhibition by Colorado cartoonist Larry Day, will be on view at the Art Base from October 3 to October 30. Day is recognized both locally and nationally as an award-winning cartoonist for the Sopris Sun in Carbondale, CO, and his illustration work has earned honors from the Colorado Press Association, Illustration Annual Award of Excellence, the Society of Illustrators, and the SCBWI Golden Kite Award among many other recognitions. Along with his national reputation, Day remains a grounded local voice whose work brings humor into close conversation with community life.
Larry Day’s humor is rooted in eloquence, always seeking the essence of a subject. For Day, the distinction between a gag and a drawing lies in the line itself—how it can, with remarkable simplicity, carry wit and warmth. Form matters. Line weight, gesture, and speed all become part of the language of the comic, where humor is not only a punchline but a harmony of formal principles.
To Day, humor is a profoundly human language: intimate, generous, and grounded in love. A successful joke does not insist on truth but brushes against it, dissolving tension with quiet recognition. His commitment to cartooning reflects a belief in its unique role—to illuminate the subtler forces of connection that exist at the periphery of daily life, often overlooked but always present.
