Before the Painting: Drawing is a foundational workshop designed for anyone who wants to paint realistically but isn’t sure how to begin. Through guided drawing exercises, students will learn how to truly see what they are drawing, using techniques such as sighting, measuring, shading, and perspective tobuild accuracy and confidence. Explore composition fundamentals, thumbnail sketching, and how to plan a painting from start to finish, with time spent working from still-life objects and photo references. Students are welcome to bring images they’ve always wanted to draw or paint. The workshop will evolve naturally based on student interests, with the goal of bringing all the pieces together—possibly even creating an underpainting—so participants leave with a stronger foundation and a clear path toward successful painting.
