Do you have a child who adores graphic novels such as Cat Kid Comic Club, Bad Guys, Hilda, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid? Do they dream of becoming a cartoonist? In this exciting summer camp, students will delve into character design, layouts, inking, and color theory to craft their own 8-page action comic. They’ll develop a storyboard and master the art of comic typography to narrate the tale of their personally crafted heroes and villains.

Come join us for a summer camp featuring Carbondale artist Stanley Bell! Stanley cultivates a vibrant and imaginative atmosphere for children to explore their artistic talents. Our indoor and outdoor activities will encompass a wide range of creative endeavors, including graffiti art using spray paints and stencils, decorating skateboard decks and baseball hats, writing and illustrating comic books and stories, crafting toys from oven-baked clay, constructing boats for a river regatta, discovering other artists at the Basalt Library, and much more.

Let’s get tropical with a Tiki theme in this exciting camp! Students will embark on a creative journey to craft their own Tiki masks and totem poles. Throughout this dynamic workshop, participants will learn the art of working with EVA foam, mastering techniques to cut and shape it into four unique masks adorning a standing totem pole. In addition to creating masks, students will explore the intricacies of stencil-making and discover how to incorporate various craft items to embellish their totem poles with colorful designs and patterns. Get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Tiki culture and unleash your inner artist in this lively and hands-on class!

SUPPLIES AND WHAT TO BRING
Art supplies are provided for all summer art camps. Please pack a lunch, water bottle and two snacks for your child. Dress your child for mess and have them bring a hat and sunscreen as we will be spending time outdoors.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Please give as much notice as possible if you need to cancel a registration. Cancellations within 48 hours of class start are subject to cancellation fees up to the total cost of registration. Cancellations with notice of 14 days or more will be issued a full refund. Camps canceled with notice of 14 days or less will be charged a cancellation fee totaling half of the total cost of registration.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are available for all Art Base classes. Applications can be found on the Art Base website in both English and Spanish. Complete the online form or email the completed application and any questions regarding scholarships to programs@theartbase.org.
REGISTRATION DISCOUNT*
Art Base supporters of $50 and higher receive a 10% discount on all classes & workshops for you and your immediate family for 1 year from the date of donation. Enter the discount code provided to you in your donation acknowledgment email when registering for classes. *Discounts may not be applied after a registration is completed. PHOTO AND DIGITAL LIKENESS USAGE CONSENT
During classes and events at the Art Base, yours or your child’s image and/or likeness may at any time be captured by still photography, videography, or other photographic or electronic means. Unless consent is waived on the class registration form or the Art Base is notified in writing that you do not want your or your child’s image to be used, the Art Base reserves the right to use any such image, photograph, video, or the like for archival, social media, marketing, or other Art Base related purposes.
