Architects design buildings! Students will embark on a variety of 2-D and 3-D projects within the theme of buildings and outdoor structures and learn about a few cool pieces of architecture around the world. Students will draw and paint architectural designs and build roller coasters, homes, and even mini-functional playground equipment all while using the elements of art. Come join this camp and find the architect that lies within YOU!

Join us for a week of sculptural thinking and problem solving with the goal of building your own board game! Utilizing 3D modeling in Tinkercad and digital fabrication, students design all elements of their game from instructions to board to pieces and fabricate them on equipment such as the 3D printer and laser cutter. This workshop stretches the creativity while also teaching practical skills in design and fabrication. The class culminates in an afternoon of playing our games and celebrating our new skills!

In this workshop, students learn how to transform disposable items into beautiful works of art. We use discarded materials and objects found in nature to create garden treasures, wall hangings, trinkets, and more! This thematic photography workshop offers a creative outlet for teen students to explore the important question, “Who am I?” During this weekend workshop, students will have the opportunity to use a Paper Shoot camera to build a photographic body of work that shares and relates your unique personality to our environment. This sculpture camp is perfect for any young artist interested in going BIG! A variety of techniques and materials are introduced with the goal of making large-scale, 3-dimensional artworks. Students are encouraged to have fun and explore different and sometimes unusual ways of working with tools and materials. By taking inspiration from great modern sculptors such as Claes Oldenburg and Yayoi Kusama, students design, plan, and execute their pieces over four days with an exhibition at the end of the week.

ROC DOC Film Camp

ROC DOC Film Camp is a collaboration between Aspen Film, the Art Base, and the Roaring Fork Rock-n-Roll Academy. Film students will create a music documentary that follows their peers who are enrolled in the academy. Week one focuses on getting to know each other, learning the foundations of storyboarding and filmmaking, learning about equipment, filming and interviews at the academy. Week one culminates in a field trip to Carbondale’s Mountain Fair to film the band on stage (optional). Week two focuses on editing, sound design and mixing, getting additional B-roll, and creating the final film. Friends and family are invited to view the fruits of the teens’ labor at a special public screening event, followed by a Q&A with the newly minted filmmakers. Drop off and pick up will be at the Art Base in Basalt. Additional public bus transportation (Basalt Connect) will be used between the art center and the Rock-n-roll Academy in Willits.

ROC DOC Film Camp es una colaboración entre Aspen Film, Art Base y Roaring Fork Rock-n-Roll Academy. Los estudiantes de cine crearán un documental musical que sigue a sus compañeros que están inscritos en la academia. La primera semana se enfoca en conocerse, aprender los fundamentos de los guiones gráficos y la realización de películas, aprender sobre equipos, filmaciones y entrevistas en la academia. La primera semana culmina con una excursión a la Feria de la Montaña de Carbondale para filmar a la banda en el escenario (opcional). La segunda semana se enfoca en editar, el diseño de sonido y la mezcla, obtener B-roll adicional y crear la película final. Se invita a amigos y familiares a ver los frutos del trabajo de los adolescentes en un evento especial de proyección pública, seguido de una sesión de preguntas y respuestas con los cineastas recién nombrados. La entrega y la recogida se realizarán en Art Base en Basalt. Se utilizará transporte de autobús público adicional (Basalt Connect) entre el centro de arte y la Academia Rock-n-roll en Willits.

SUPPLIES AND WHAT TO BRING
Art supplies are provided for all summer art camps. Please pack a lunch, water bottle and two snacks for your child. Dress your child for mess and have them bring a hat and sunscreen as we will be spending time outdoors.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Please give as much notice as possible if you need to cancel a registration. Cancellations within 48 hours of class start are subject to cancellation fees up to the total cost of registration.

Scholarships are available for all Art Base classes. Applications can be found on the Art Base website in both English and Spanish. Complete the online form or email the completed application and any questions regarding scholarships to programs@theartbase.org.
